excuse me mr yogi......marriage is unexplainable!....there should be a marriage manual but i've found it's mainly give and take and my wife does plenty of taking!!!
but Ilove her so...we've been together on and off for around twenty years....divorced and again manacled together..
a lover's life sentence!

Ahh yes. Marriage is after all a great institution ... if you don't mind living in an institution.

Ha ha ha!!!! Now don't be cynical guys! Behind every great man, there's an even greater woman.
Who looks after you when you go down with the flu (cold)?
Who irons all your clothes and keeps the house neat?
Who cooks, cleans, and washes your smelly socks for you?
Who puts on a pleasant smile and helps you to entertain your guests?
Who gives you good advice that you sometimes don't listen to?
Who allows you to sit in front of the TV to watch those endless sports programmes - and might even bring you a drink so as you don't have to be distracted?
Marriage seems to be great - for you men. : )
Mind you, I don't do half of the above things, and we still have a great marriage!!

let us see.
I'd do that. If he wasn't too whiny.
He'd do that himself.
Both, both, him
I'd do that
I might do that.

...but mostly I'd expect to be served ;)

LOL Silke!!

Actually, I was being tongue in cheek there.
My OH never goes down with "flu" instead of a cold. He's not a mardy, whiney type.
ME, iron? Never!!
I cook now and again, clean up a BIT - but DO wash his socks (merely because I wouldn't want smelly ones lying around).
I think I make a great hostess when we have visitors, but then, The Husband's a charming host as well.
I always offer him good advice ... SOME of which he heeds!
I never have to provide him with drinks while he's watching sport on TV, because he doesn't watch much - certainly not long enough to warrant me acting as barmaid/waitress.
I think Tomsk's got the right idea - mutual respect and understanding, with a lot of love and laughter thrown in.

the best system i saw in action was this couple, alena and john. they had their and the kids' housework divvied up and none touched the others' domain, to the point that when i one day asked about the peasoup fishtank, alena shrugged and said "john's job..."

see, i couldn't handle that, when i had cleaned hubby's fishtank one time too many, my husband woke up one night to brian fishing in the living room. i'd given the fish away to a coworker who happily came to collect them after work.

We don't believe in strictly sharing jobs/chores. There are some which I won't do, and some which the OH won't do, but it works out well.
