Do you know of anyone who participates in EI, or extreme ironing?
It's a competitive sport. Extreme ironing consists of ironing clothing in different, usually extreme, situations like while rock climbing, surfing, on a kayak… The world of EI is quite fascinating, with participants from around the world and several International EI competitions that have given rise to stories of triumph and bitter rivalries. EI was the subject of Extreme Ironing: Pressing for Victory, a UK documentary following the British team’s participation in the 1st Extreme Ironing World Championships in Germany.
I don't do ANY ironing, let alone in strange places. The nearest I got to it was when I first got married. On a nice day, I'd take the ironing board outside. It wasn't too bad, doing that one tea towel.

I've never heard of this competition until I read about it here. Google returned about 840,000 results when doing a search, which made me think I'm leading a sheltered life.

LOL - do you fancy having a go Yogi? My husband's done more ironing than me, and he makes a great job of it. Not sure how he'd fare on a surf board or something though. Might have to practice on a water bed first. : )

When I was a young lad I ironed handkerchiefs for my mom. That's it for my experience ironing clothes, thank you very much.

 What a good lad you were! I couldn't get mine to iron a five pound note flat, even if I said they could have it afterwards!! :P

of course, there are materials I don't cherish ironing, like linen, which really needs steam roller to work...

I agree. Linen's a gross material to flatten out, but the worst of it is, it soon creases up again. I have a linen skirt which I used to steam iron. If it hung against anything in the wardrobe, it'd soon have rumples on it again, so ... I don't wear it any more - which means no more ironing. In fact, it can go in the bin!
