casablanca

Post by pilvikki »

i don't know if i've actually seen it before, but decided to watch it yesterday.

well, let's see... no sex, no fights, no gimmicks, no special effects, only 2 bodies [i think] and a pretty weak plot.

yet i really enjoyed it!

nope, she's long gone now...

oh dear, i just looked up her bio, kid had a rough beginning... and an end, too

ngrid Bergman was born in Stockholm, Sweden on August 29, 1915. Her mother, Friedel Adler Bergman, a Hamburg, Germany native, died when Ingrid was just three years old. Ingrid's father, Justus Samuel Bergman, a Swede, raised Ingrid until his death, when she was 12. Justus, who owned a photography shop, encouraged Ingrid's artistic pursuits and even caught some scenes of her as a small child with a motion picture camera. Many years later, the famous director Ingmar Bergman (no relation), with whom Ingrid worked, compiled and edited these home movies. After her father's death, Ingrid was left to the care of an unmarried aunt, who died within months, and she eventually spent her teenage years with an uncle and his family.

yikes.

she died on her 67th b-day from breast cancer.

Aww, how sad, but I didn't know that she'd been born in 1915. I thought it was a good while later.

Time passes so quickly, it's easy to get it wrong. When I was listening to Freddie Mercury last night, I made a comment about him passing away around 1991 time (not quite sure), but it's 20-odd years ago, and I can still remember the newspapers being full of it, but it doesn't seem that long ago since he went.

Can't say really. It's one of those old-style films which's quite good, but I can watch a film and then forget most of it a week later, sort of thing. I'm not a film addict really.

No idea Tomsk. I've seen plenty of good ones, but can't pick out a favourite. Of the more "recent" ones, I liked Avatar, LOTR, and then Shindler's List, Saving Private Ryan, lots of quite old ones - and Shrek!!! : )

I think we have it on DVD. I honestly can't remember the first film we took the boys to see, but we have loads of them.

You're absolutely right there, but I somehow don't really see it as spoiling ours - although I suppose it IS. I like to give them things, and never wanted as a child myself, so it's just something I do. The only difference is, that we make ours understand the value of money, and they don't get everything they ask for.
