Pipe Cleaners

Post by caththecrazy »

After talking to my grandmother about this thread she told me shortly after she got married her grandmother told her -

pipe cleaners can be made from strong feathers ie those from pigeons, rooks

(not that my grandfather smoked)

I thought I would share it as it seemed so useful

My grandma used to use pipe cleaners to curl her hair with. She'd wrap strands of damp hair around them, and leave them in place until her dry. Upon taking them out, she said that she had ringlets which stayed in for a week!

Rooks feathers? I have a beautiful rook quill pen which I still use on parchment for writing special letters!

Vikki I think they were pleased - saved them being chased by the anti litter campaign for dropping their feathers all over the place.......
