When I was younger maybe. Since my heart attack, I'm usually more frustrated at the things I need to do, know how to do, and just can't anymore.
It's hard to find someone to handle a few piddle things for me, because doing so doesn't earn them enough money to make it worth their while. Or they charge way more than the totality of the jobs should cost.

Before my late wife was wheelchair bound, she had several simple little things she did each morning, like I do now. Like fill the bird feeders so she can watch the birds through the window. I used to get up an hour earlier than normal to do several little things she used to do before I left for work. Most of them were unnecessary things, but made her day brighter.
As her condition got worse, the number of things increased. I set down plates, flatware, and prepared foods in the fridge so she could reach them from her wheelchair. I'm sure you can visualize all that needed done before I left. It wasn't too long before I had to quit work to stay home with her during the day, so found things to do I could do at home to earn an income.
I just thank my lucky stars I knew how to do as many things as I did, so I could always generate an income using many different avenues of endeavor.

I don't know whether your fine attributes had any impact on the fact you've been married more than once - but did you know that women find thoughtfulness an attractive trait in a man?

Don't you believe it when women say they like the "bad boys". They might for a while, but such relationships don't work out too well.

Well I can't help it because they up and croak on me before I get them well trained, hi hi...

My wife has told me many times after we got home from a gathering, many comments made to her, outside of their own hubby's earshot. Wish my man was half as thoughtful, generous, or kind, as yours.
She will reply. Yeah, but you don't have to put up with him either, hi hi...

LOL! Well we all like to have a little gripe about our OH's, but if we didn't love them we wouldn't put up with them. Being kind and thoughtful must be the two best attributes to have.

Regardless of what situations you are faced with, always treat the other person the way you would want to be treated if the tables were turned 180 degrees.

In other words, put yourself in the other persons shoes, and know how frustrating their limitations can be.
Then go about making things more accessible to them, or more convenient for them.
It reduces the levels of frustration exponentially, and even garners a smile or two.

I was brought up to believe that you treat people as you'd wish to be treated yourself, but I must confess that there're times when it's not easy!

Especially when they seem to take advantage and you end up on the short end of the stick so many times.

I wouldn't allow anyone to take advantage of me, but what I meant was, sometimes I have an acid remark on the tip of my tongue (sometimes deservedly so), but I try and refrain from perpetuating what is, after all, a childish situation.

Swapping banter's a different kettle of fish though. No one takes offence at that, and mostly give as good as they get. : )

I'm good at sarcasm, picked it up from my mother who used it fluently.

So am I, but I rarely use it in a meaningful way. If I'm sarcastic, it's usually when I'm joking, but I'm pretty good at put-downs and remarks if I'm returning something which's been said to me. I don't usually bother though. Sticks and stones and all that, but I find it juvenile.

Don't like to speak ill of my mother, but she could be sarcastic without even opening her mouth and saying something. She had sarcasm so down pat, mere body gestures or eye movements were clearly understood.

LOL - I know what you mean Gary, so don't feel bad about saying it. Most of us love our mothers, but we can also see their bad points - or good, as the case may be! : )

Honestly, my parents were GREAT, wouldn't trade either of them for the world.
Have no complaints about my childhood either, and it was better in many ways than most kids, even those of my era enjoyed.
An experience of a lifetime was at my fingertips every single day, things to explore, areas to visit, all within eye shot of someone who knew us, so we were also safe from harm.

This is how growing up should be, but sadly, many kids today'll never have the pleasure of it.

My parents're also fantastic. They brought us up quite strictly, and yet gave us free rein in some ways, but always with guidance and love. They basically paved the way for us to do the best we could, and we've all done that. I think if you're given opportunities and lots of encouragement and support, it's always going to work, so that's what I try and do with my own two, and I have children to be proud of.

Gary - I don't suppose it matters too much now, but I'm going off topic a bit. Are you anywhere near Minnesota? Is that in the mid west? Sorry - I don't know a lot about individual US states, but our eldest son's over there for a month in the summer. I know where he's going, but he'll be travelling alone and I'm a bit concerned with him having to negotiate not only his own way from here to Heathrow, but then onto San Francisco and further again. Thanks in advance. : )

My original home of St. Louis, Missouri, is considered the Gateway to the West, and being west of the Mississippi River was a part of the mid-west region. It was in the Central Time Zone. To the right of the Mississippi River lies one-third of our nation, two-thirds lies to the left.

The state of Minnesota is two states north of Missouri and borders Canada. Two states lie below Missouri to reach our southern Gulf of Mexico.

I now live in Knoxville, Tennessee. The top left of the state, touches the lower eastern panhandle of Missouri. Only North Carolina borders us on the east, then the Atlantic Ocean on North Carolina's eastern shore. We are in the Eastern Time Zone. Drawing a 45 degree line from St.Louis to Savannah, Georgia, which is on the Atlantic seaboard, the line would pass through Knoxville, TN, at about the half-way point along the line.

San Francisco is on the Pacific Ocean seaboard in California, as far left (west) as you can go in the continental USA. It is at the bottom of the top one-third of the tall state of California.
If he is flying from Heathrow, it seems he will be making a stop in New York, on the east side of the US first, before setting out to cross the entire continental US to its western edge.
When I lived in St. Louis, only a select few flights went from Heathrow to St. Louis direct. I'm pretty sure their was a couple of direct flights from LAX in Los Angeles to Heathrow, but have no idea if any are in or out of San Francisco.

Unless he plans on going to the Island of Hawaii, also a US state, there is nothing west of San Francisco except Ocean, so tell him he had better stop when he gets to San Francisco to keep from getting wet, hi hi...

I hope he has a wonderful time visiting "The Colonies."
You might tell him San Francisco is not indicative of the rest of the cities in our great land. If he has the time, he should visit a few other cities, or states if possible. I would hate for him to return home to tell everyone the US is full of fruits and nuts. The rest of the US is protected from the west coasters by a huge Rocky Mountain. Now whether sanity still prevails east of the Rockies is a matter of opinion, hi hi...

Hi Gary, and thank you, but I made a huge fuax pas, which I've pm'd you about.

Long story as to why I got it wrong, but he's actually going to California - Meadow Vista. It's just over 43 miles from Sacramento, or ... almost 124 miles to Carson City (Nevada?). He'll be flying direct to San Francisco, and get picked up from there. I'm hoping he might be able to take a photo of Alcatraz - or the island - from the bridge?

With being there for a month, I guess that gives him plenty of time to have a look round, but it depends on what his hosts have planned, from a social aspect.
