RIP Leonard Nimoy...

My favorite actor from my all-time favorite series passed this morning, and an icon is dead. RIP, Spock. You lived long and prospered, and you WILL be missed! http://www.nytimes.com/2015/02/27/arts/television/leonard-nimoy-spock-of-star-trek-dies-at-83.html?smid=fb-nytimes&smtyp=cur&bicmp=AD&bicmluk...

Re: Walk of shame...

While I agree that Target shouldn't be held liable for this man's suicide (nobody should be held responsible for what an unstable person chooses to do to him/herself), I must say that the way they dealt with this was horrible. Apparently, this "walk of shame" was not an unknown thing in this particu...

Walk of shame...

"Walk of shame?" Really, do employers in this country ACTUALLY get away with BS like this?? These people committed assault and false imprisonment, at the very least, against this employee. Criminal charges should be filed against all staff who participated in the perpetration this incredibly despica...

Re: 'In dog we trust'

No "oops" about it, in my opinion. They should have kept the rug. I'd trust a dog with proven loyalty and affection far more than I'd trust most people, and certainly more than I'd trust a being who may or may not exist -- and, if he or she does, probably doesn't give a hairy rat's ass about me, any...

Re: State forcing teenager to undergo chemotherapy

Dennis is right re: chemotherapy. I was an oncology nurse for a little over two years, when I finally burned out on watching my patients slowly die from their diseases, anyway. Not only do two nurses have to identify the patient and verify his/her consent to the procedure...but, after the Doc has or...

State forcing teenager to undergo chemotherapy

http://heavy.com/news/2015/01/cassandra-jackie-fortin-connecticut-teen-cancer-state-forced-chemotherapy/ The girl in question is nine months away from her 18th birthday, when she'll be "legally" capable of making her own health decisions and refusing treatment, if that's what she wants to do. What ...

Re: Doctor abandons newly adopted dog while on vacation

I don't dispute the man's profession, either, Icey. I put the word "doctor" in quotation marks simply because this man was SO completely without compassion that he's a blight upon his profession and all that it's supposed to stand for! This man, believe it or not, is a pain management specialist. Su...

Doctor abandons newly adopted dog while on vacation

http://www.examiner.com/article/while-on-vacation-sc-doctor-abandons-newly-adopted-dog-by-tying-to-phone-pole THIS is disgusting! Those of you who read this so-called "doctor's" letter which tries to somehow justify his behavior will probably find it as full of holes as I did. In the first place, W...

Re: "all animals go to heaven"

He's a cool dude. But any Pope who would name himself after St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals, is OK in my book. He's a breath of fresh air. I can *almost* see myself wanting to return to the faith, but not quite yet ;-)

Re: For Sale: Used Undergarments

I, for one, wear NOTHING without washing it first! What can I say? I'm a nurse, and a pathological germophobe. I won't even wear my work shoes home, and my scrubs go into the wash the minute I get through the door. The IDEA of wearing new underwear that hasn't been washed is revolting, to say the le...

Re: Woah!

There WAS a time when I loved to see it, too...back in the day when I was a student in the public school system and a good snow guaranteed me a day out of school -- a day when I could snuggle under the covers, sleep late, and enjoy my day. These days, I HATE the sight of the stuff! Idiots on our roa...

Re: Woah!

Yeah, we got hammered, too, but not as badly as many parts of the country did. Still, we had a record snowfall of six inches as of 1 p.m. on Thursday, breaking our previous record of 4.7 inches set in 1974. Looks like winter is off to an early start in these parts...

I wish I *could* hug him whenever I wanted to. Unfortunately, he lives a 12-hour drive away from here, so I only see him several times a year. Thank Heavens for FaceTime and cell phone videos...I get to see and talk to him almost daily this way. Can't wait till I see him again in December!

Indeed, he has grown even more. He had his second birthday in July, and we were fortunate enough to see him when the kids came home for a visit last month. Here's my big boy as he appears now:

Re: Ebola in the US

Honestly? As many people around here are s**tting bricks about Ebola, I'm not that excited about it. So far, at least, transmission of Ebola is not airborne. Unless one comes into actual physical contact with the feces, vomit, saliva or other bodily fluids of an Ebola sufferer, one isn't very likely...

Just one more reason to avoid, if at all possible, discussing ANY of your health issues with your employer.
