MS Word 2007

Postby bermbits » 05 Sep 2007, 20:02

My school has disks available for me to upgrade (update?) my home computer from MS Word 2003 to 2007. We have it at school and while it is a bit different, it's okay.

Is this upgrade a good idea?

If it is within the licence for you to use the discs, and the students will be handing in assignments using the same format, then I would upgrade. If you don't you may have trouble opening dicuments produced at school.

Personally I use openoffice at home, and at work they are still using office 97.

Word 2007 is an entirely different program than its predecessors. You can't read the 2007 documents from earlier versions of Word unless you get the free translator from Microsoft.

My preference would be as googie does, use Open Office which has no problem reading Microsoft Office suite files. However, there could be some format issues - minor but issues nonetheless.

My second approach would be not an upgrade, but a complete install from scratch of Word 2007. That way you would have the old version for your normal use, and the 2007 version for your class work.

Thanks, guys (it's nice to deal with normal people every once in a while).
