my sympathy for rats vanished with daughter's pet rat. it decided to rub its teeth on my finger and the feeling of it is still with me - from 1982. seriously! it didn't bite down, but from that I know that if it had, i'd not had much finger left.

it was a cute rat though.

I don't like rats, whether pet or wild ones, but I wouldn't like to hurt one. Some years ago, someone threw some old bacon out near the bottom of the back garden. I saw a huge rat toddle along and eat it. Some while later, the rat was back, with about 5 babies in tow!! I shuddered at the thought of them living so close to us, but it was fascinating to watch.

I know they can spread things Tomsk, but I watched a documentary once about a factory in a poor part of Italy. They produce pasta dishes for the posh restaurants down below them, and hideously, they had rats running all over the place - even along the shelves where the newly-made pasta was put! They said no one'd ever become ill through eating their products, and there you were, with one poor lickle mouse ...... snuffle.

Anyway, of course there were babies - or would've been.

You wouldn't want anyone putting YOU down if you were deemed as a "pest". Awww, live and let live, Archie.
