Secrets of an Elite Group - Curious?

Postby Kellemora » 08 Jul 2012, 20:42

Hi Gang

Just curious how many BrainFormation members are:
Writers, in any venue;
Interested in learning about Writing;
Have always aspired to become a Writer;
Or would like to tell Writers where to go,
in such a nice way they should enjoy the trip.

If enough members are interested in this field,
Dennis might consider one of the following:
A) Breaking our Fingers so we can't write.
B) Lining us up in front of a firing squad.
C) Plopping a dunce cap on our heads, and/or
D) Sticking us in a padded "Writers Corner" cell.

If you would like to share information and support,
help members improve their writing skills, promote
writing and creativity, or learn where to start;

Comments Welcome!

TTUL
Gary

MOM, STOP that!!!!

you're not being modest when you say stuff like that, you're being self-sabotaging! the more you say it, the more you believe it until it becomes true!

ok, this is not the time or the place for a family tiff, but i used to be much better. i'd read my own stuff i'd find somewhere and say 'hm... not bad', but since then my wits have seriously dulled, my vacab shrunk along with my spine. and i resent that. big time.

Once again, I think everyone knows my answer...I'd be delighted.

As for me, I'll go with option D:

it's always the time and place for a family tiff, lol.

it's still there, mom - "use it or lose it" isn't precise about vocabulary. it's still there, you just need to recreate the access paths to it which is much more quickly done than creating them in the first place.

I don't know too much about writing, but I can whip off a scathing letter if I'm not happy with something. My letters to friends used to be pages and pages long and, from their point of view, reading enjoyment.

I would love to learn a thing or two about writing, I need something to fill my time besides Facebook! :dancer2:

Thanks for the Plug Yogi!

One of my reasons for using the interesting Subject Line, is because one of the keys to successful writing, has to do with the inclusion of a Character who holds a Secret. Using a secret in your story can make it more exciting to the reader.
When a character or plot seems to flatten or become thin, letting them hold a secret, keeps them in the limelight and the reader turning those pages. This little key works in most venues and is a very powerful tool, when used properly.

Count me in. I agree - option D sounds fine!

I intend to write properly when my children are a little older and I have more time. Like threenorns, I have folders full of orphans. Some may be resurrected at some stage, others not, but writing's one of my hobbies anyway. I worked for a short time in an editorial office, and used to contribute to various magazines. I write poems, stories, song lyrics, but think, that after having to make so many stories up on the spur of the moment for my children, that this is the way I'll go in the future.

I hope you aren't saying that you're restricting yourself to that avenue! While my current endeavor is SFF (my favorite genre), I have written in a wide range of others, though not quite as prolifically.

One thing I have found is that writing stimulates research into the various aspects of my subject(s), and my global knowledge base is thereby increased. Even SFF requires one to research various real situations and technologies, if one wishes to retain even the slightest illusion of believability.

Continue writing in a plethora of subjects, and one day you may achieve what I (and likely, Kelly) have obtained after years of sweat and striving...certifiable clinical insanity! MUAA-HA-HA-HA-HA!

Hi Ice

Children's books hold a very large market share!

And the best part about them is, ta da, they are within MY reading level!

Blame that on my mom! She always said I was 20 going on 2, hi hi.....

Good morning one and all from another rainy day in Blighty!

*And the best part about them is, ta da, they are within MY reading level!* - LOL - beautiful Gary!

*seems they suit my ADD very well.* Well there we go then Vikks - writing for the children's market seems acceptable all round!

No Glenn, I keep my options open, but over here, I see a gap in the market. I fancy writing stories which make the eyes of little ones widen in surprise and wonder. I've had to think fast when making up bedtime stories, not just for my own children but for young nieces and nephews and those of friends, and I found that they were all delighted by what I managed to come up with - so why not write them down and bring out a nice big book full of these wondrous tales?

I've written things for an older audience, and written plays in the same vein, but with having to devise educational games and keep our youngest autistic son amused, I have a feeling that this's where my forte lies at the moment. I'll know when the time comes, and whatever springs to mind'll just get typed out and end up in whichever category it does! : )
