Pleats

Post by Yogi »

I ran across this web site dedicated to pleats. Yes pleats. Those folds in material that, well, a lot of people think are ugly. I was amazed at how many different types there are, and they all have names:
    Accordion Pleat
    Box Pleat
    Cartridge Pleat
    Fluted Pleat
    Godet Pleat
    Honeycomb Pleat
    Kick Pleat
    Knife Pleat
It kind of makes me wonder why the names don't go past the letter 'K'

well, that was a surprisingly interesting bit!

and don't tell anyone, but of the weird things one finds in the basement... there was a dress with a pleated skirt made from some super material - mother bought it for me in 1964 and it looks like it always did. pleats and all, just needs a new zipper...

Providing it's got no moth holes in it, I'd keep it. It'd be interesting for anyone looking at it 100 years from now!

There are quite a few other types of pleating Yogi.

You get :

Mini pleats
Pencil pleats
Rolled pleats
Single pleats
Slotted pleats
Stacked pleats
Sunray pleats
Tab Top pleats
Twin pleats
Two Way pleats
Zigzag pleats

Also one or two in between.

Good grief. It must be the only sewing that has so many styles to it.

LOL!!! Is a plat a plait, and do you pleat a plait? Hey - this could turn into a tongue-twister!

Geoff Platt - Ice hockey player.

Samantha Pleat - designer.

Plat (with one "t") - alteration of plaiten, to fold, braid; see plait.

Confused yet????

I used to have my hair plaited when I was a kid. My mother thought it looked neat. : (

Never seen it, so can't imagine who you mean. Don't worry - the plaits were out before I'd barely stepped through the school gates!

Can't remember, except that I didn't like my hair being plaited or put into bunches.
