My Winter Wonderland - 2011

I took a few pictures in my back yard and one in my front yard in the aftermath of the ice/snow storm that blew through the area recently.

Here's the view of my back yard, straight down the hill:

Here's one looking to the left, towards our neighbor's back yard:

And to the right, towards the woods:

Back of the house:

And finally, a view down the street in front of my house. House is to the right, and behind me the road dead-ends into the woods you saw in the third picture above:

The ice and snow made everything look beautiful, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder...lots of trees and tree limbs down. There will be quite a mess to clean up once the snow melts.

that's after your storm????

:lmao4:

people in burlington [SOUTH from here] couldn't find their cars! of course, being NORTH from here we had a few ansentminded flakes looking for glenn's yard but having blown off the course they settled for my van...

one day i was following sophie around her back yard and i fell in. all the way to my butt.... sophie had to push me out. so they did get some somewhere along the way, but just not last week.

Yes, yes....I know that's a light dusting to you, something you probably expect in, say, June. But this, coupled with 1/4-1/2" of ice coating everything, is a bit of a deal here. Let's see....is this any better:

That's a friend of mine who lives 80 miles due west of me. They had a bit more in that area.

Yep...ICE! That ain't all snow on the tree branches, you know! It's also why the branches are sagging so low...the weight of the ice.

It's the same here, except for the rain (that was yesterday). At least the sun's finally out again. The cloud line is right over us, with the western part of the U.S. in the sunshine and the eastern half is under the cloud cover.

It could be worse, I guess...I could live in Charleston S.C. :hide:

A major severe weather front, with major tornadoes and damage. It was one that had passed through here a day or two earlier (we had a few tornadoes, too, but nothing much), but smashed it's way through the south and southeast, causing widespread damage and several deaths.

At the time I wrote the above, it was approaching Charleston and looked really bad.

We tend to forget what the forces of nature can do - until unexpectedly severe weather arrives. Then it makes you realise how small and insignificant we all are.

Oh, and I made a mistake...all the really bad weather happened in the Raleigh, NC area, not the Charleston SC area. Here's some news and a video on the storms:

Awww!!! Well at least the final bit about the couple's wedding album being saved was heartwarming - but it makes you realise the enormity of the Japanese tragedy. We have floods, you have tornados, and people lose their lives and homes. It's terrible - but nothing in comparison, is it? I feel sorry for anyone who's affected by these things though.

right now they're swimming in St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec love those funky names!] - worse floods in decades from the richelieu river.
