tramadol

Postby pilvikki » 13 Jan 2015, 04:48

I had a dream that I was in finland at grandma's cottage and had taken ½ of a pill called Tramadol, instead of my b/p meds. the dream somehow insisted that I look at the name embossed on the dirty (!) blisterpack over and over, until I could clearly see it.

so, when I woke up, I looked it up and as I - still sleepy - typed it in, I realized it's the latest pain med my doctor prescribed to me. I hit side-effects and woah!

WTF???

of course, not all side-effects affect all people all the time, but still, I complained about nausea and dizziness, and he gave me a tablet to counteract it....!

just hand me over that heroin, I think it'll be easier to deal with.

I mean.... REALLY?

   !

Well I'd get rid of that one STRAIGHT away! It's a synthetic opiate and quickly habit-forming. Hang on ....

"Tramadol may be habit-forming, even at regular doses. Take this medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Never share the medicine with another person. MISUSE OF NARCOTIC PAIN MEDICATION CAN CAUSE ADDICTION, OVERDOSE, OR DEATH, especially in a child or other person using the medicine without a prescription."

It also doesn't mix well with other meds, especially anti-depressants, and must never be taken after drinking alcohol.

The side effects're horrible. You're not even supposed to take them with herbal or complimentary medicines, and anything over 50-100mg every 6 hours's classed as an overdose. : (
It's on a par with morphine. In fact, I think morphine'd be preferable, but if you're needing painkillers at that level, there're better ones which could be prescribed anyway. You must've been in some discomfort to've even been given those, so I hope you get your back sorted out asap.

'discomfort' doesn't quite cover it... :bleh:

I think i'll just go without as much as I can and then go with the old codein. that way I won't get used to anything...

So long as you don't take codeine too regularly, it should be OK. At the end if the day, it's an opiate, and can become addictive once the pain-killing property starts to wear off, because then people tend to increase the dose.

Best of luck. When I used to tear back ligaments and put discs out, the pain was incredible; both on a par with each other. I managed on paracetamol (don't ask me how, but they were going down regularly, so eventually they started to work), but I put up with it until the injuries became more bearable, because I didn't want to be prescribed tramadol, which the doctor'd mentioned. : (

it should have ben named 'traumadol', yes?

'luckily' i'd not be able to get addicted to codeine anyway: my gut would not put up with it.

*Traumadol! Very good! I think the name describes it perfectly.

Codeine works on me pretty well, especially when it's given as Co-codamol. I know that a lot of people feel strange if they take it, but I'm fine with it.
