sleep patterns

ok, so if this is true and why not, then someone explain what possible use this sort of pattern may have been for our ancestors? after all, it would have been pitch black and the suggestion that people used this time for religious practices would be totally off the wall. if night time was so feared, you'd think they'd pull the covers over their heads?

unless... it would be when the fire in the hearth died down and they had to toss another log or 2 of the fire to keep themselves from freezing to death?

still, I can relate to the 2 cycle sleep for I've had periods of waking up after 3-4 hrs of sleep and wondering what to now as i'm wide awake...
