Yep - count me in on that pink. I used to be always writing stories, plays, songs and poetry. These days I tend to make up funny poems on the spur of the moment to amuse our youngest.

yer caps are stuck? :P [if i didn't mention that, leggy would get very snarky since i yelled at him about the same thing.]

you know why i don't do poetry any more...? it's honest. and in my case it mostly comes out very dark and dismal. i prefer to make people chuckle whenever i can...

I'm not much of a poet,
and most of you know it.
But occasionally still
if the moment is right I will
jot down a line
that is mostly a whine.

Mostly I stick with the "Roses are red..." stuff. ...keeps me honest

Aww... well poetry comes in many forms, and there's always someone who appreciates it mamie. x

I also prefer to make people laugh Vikki, and you're not at all nuts for making up bedtime stories or whatever. I did exactly the same when the boys were younger, but they prefer my erm...poems now.

Sample:
Walking down the country lanes,
The walking kept me fit.
I raised my leg
to climb a style,
and fell, into some...
grit!

Oops! Well perhaps not QUITE as bad.... ( :dancer2: ). LOL!!!!!

Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
If we're in a contest
the winner is you!

No - that accolade goes to you mamie. I defer on the grounds that my own poems are rude drivel.

.off the cuff

The days are getting shorter
and the nights are getting colder.
Could it be that Fall is coming
and the winds are getting bolder?

I saw a red leaf yesterday,
which means the seasons change
more frequently than usual
I find that really strange.

I love poetry...really enjoyed your last Mamie...

I am currently reading a book called 'Johnny's Song' - Poetry of a Vietnam Veteran - Steve Mason.

I really like the contemporary war poets and especially those who write about the post-conflict condition....not everyone's cup of tea.....but Steve Mason - an honest poet...love his work... :-)

Today I will drive north,
for a luncheon with my Mom.

I'll tell her all that has been happening
around me for the last week.

I bought a new bed, my son is coming home
from Oregon, my grandchildren are
in Catholic school this year - to get away
from all the "special needs" immigrants.

She'll listen and nod and smile -
and then after a while
interrupt and touch her head
and say, "What's that you said?"

People always said I'm a poet,
Even though I never did know it.
I'd just shake my head;
Then one day I said,
"I'll stop now - I don't want to blow it!" :?

I specialize in doggerel! I do have a knack for writing quickly in couplets, but there is little value to it.
I once wrote a several-page term paper on Alexander Pope presented fully in couplets.
When I taught, we read a good amount of poetry, but I rarely ever had students write it. Many of my formers were concrete thinkers and had problems with the concept of imagery.
