Strange animal facts

Postby Ice.Maiden » 28 May 2014, 18:09

A donkey will sink in quicksand but a mule won't.

A mole can dig a tunnel 300 feet long in just one night.

A snail can sleep for 3 years.

Armadillos are the only animal besides humans that can get leprosy. To add to the weirdness, armadillos have 4 babies at a time, and they're always of one sex.

Baby robins eat 14 feet of earthworms every day.

Bats always turn left when exiting a cave.

Certain frogs can be frozen solid then thawed, and continue living.

Donkeys kill more people annually than plane crashes.

Slugs have 4 noses.

Owls are one of the only birds who can see the color blue.

In the Caribbean there are oysters that can climb trees.

The oldest known goldfish lived to be 41 years of age.

The placement of a donkey's eyes in its' heads enables it to see all four feet at all times.

I didn't know any of those facts! :(

think about it!

Each young robin may eat 14 feet of earthworms in a two week nest life—and worms are not even their main food!

:lmao4:

It is a common myth on the internet that bats turn left when leaving a cave. It has been observed that they have no preference and will turn right or fly directly ahead as often as they turn left.

Not only can birds see blue but some varieties of birds can see into the UV spectrum, allowing them to detect colors that humans cannot perceive.

donkey's are pretty cool, but the eyes... hmm...

you were up pretty late when you posted those, eh?

oysters:

... what actually happens is the high tide comes in and leaves oysters attached to trees. When the tide finally goes back out the Oysters are left attached to the trees giving way to the belief that they can climb trees

the frogs: true. it's a wood frog. wood frog. hmm.. it increases its glucose in the cells to adjust their freezing point.

cool stuff!

Thank you.

I just came across the "facts" and copied and pasted, expecting them to be true. OK ... some slight errors then....

easily done! no fowl, no harm. or foul either.

I have waded through so much manure on the net that I get naturally suspicious of anything under the title of "facts".

yet I get caught as well.

I was cross that they could post stuff like that when you made me realise that they'd got their "facts" wrong. Hmph. I'll find something else. : )

check with snopes.com. they're not 100% foolproof either, but i'd say at least 99.99. at least they do research, and if they can't get it right, well, who are we to think we're looking silly?

and while there, you can read about some really, really crazy stuff!
