RIP Larry Hagman

Postby Ice.Maiden » 24 Nov 2012, 08:41

I think I've only ever seen 2 episodes of Dallas, and although Larry had a varied career, I never saw him in anything else. Very sad though, as he managed to survive a liver transplant in 1995 after suffering with cirrhosis, and then died of throat cancer with his family and old friend Linda Gray at his bedside. I'm sure he'll be remembered by his many friends in the acting world.

He was the son of Mary Martin (TV's Peter Pan way back when).

I think that's a lovely photo.

Yes, he reached a fair age Vikki, but the illnesses weren't too good to live with, poor man.

Exactly. Most people have crosses to bear and all that ..... but some make the bad look good, in comparison.

"I Dream Of Jeanie" may have been before Tomsk's time, but it wasn't before mine. That was my initial introduction to Larry Hagman.

I never cared much for Dallas, but I did watch it on occasion. I was initially disappointed that Hagman played J. R. Ewing, a no-good, conniving...well, you know. It wasn't until subsequent years that I came to the realization that he was an actor, playing a part. I've come to appreciate the skill of an actor who can play a "bad guy" part as well as "good guy." It takes skill and ability.

He will be missed.

You're right in what you say. Good actors can take on whatever roles ther're given, and that's why there are a few notable ones who won't be easily forgotten.
