The racism and hate posts I've seen regarding this are positively shameful. You'd think, that in America, a nation which has always prided itself on "diversity" and for being a "melting pot," as it were, that attitudes wouldn't still be so bigoted and hateful. The woman WAS raised as an *American,* after all!

Looks as though the racists in this nation are looking to take us back to the "good ole days" of the KKK :(

i know the web is crawling with trolls, but it still shocked the hell out of me!

i know canada isn't as pure as i'd like it to be, but i was really happy when i was at a show where a black guy from the states was doing an opening act [for george carlin  ]. he was talking about being black and cracking jokes about the way the designations kept changing. first it was negro, then coloured, then black, then african-american... "so, what you all call black people here?"

we sat and thought about it for a sec or two when a guy calls out "canadians!"

the comedian was briefly lost for words, but then he was so happy!

loved it.

I think it's good that someone of Indian decent has won, just as I was pleased America chose a black President. But it's of no surprise that people hate her not because of anything she's done but because of the colour of her skin. I mean she was born in New York, you can't get a more diverse population than the big apple. But some people don't want diversity, they just want white. And they hate anything that isn't white. It shows that no matter how great a nation, the loonies will always drag it down.

Idiots.

And did you read the comment about the Irish immigrants? Apparently, they were treated worse than "the Africans."

WTF?!?

The person who posted that chided the haters to go and reread their textbooks.

Yeeaahhh ... maybe she should do the same.

it really upset me.

BUT ! get this - lookwise i didn't she was the most beautiful. while i actually love her skin colour, her nose is quite alien to me. in other words, when it comes to the standards of beauty, i also have my preset parameters. i think that must be hardwired for some reason, for it makes no logical sense. i'm sure there's a study about that somewhere.

anyway, i read about her and her studies etc and thought that was fabulous! are the trolls jealous?

and to think that had it not been for all those idiots slamming her, i would not have even known the event happened...

Very true, I didn't even know there had been a Miss America until this post.

It's funny that all the hate directed towards her because of her colour has made her more famous than if she'd been white and christian. Hopefully she'll also get more work with the increased attention and can laugh in the haters faces, all the way to the bank.

I don't know if this woman practices any religion, but if she's Muslim, I'd have expected THEM to go up in arms about her - simply for the fact that she paraded herself in skimpy attire, which they frown upon.

no way does that fit into being a muslim.

i think she's a scientist, so religion may not be a high priority.

Yes, you could be right there, although I saw some Pakistani models on TV who give private cat walk shows to the elite. Seems there's one rule for them, but not for the masses, and all the girls wore short dresses, had bras showing, etc., etc.

I think that more and more of them're throwing caution to the wind, particularly those who've been brought up in the west.

If she's of Indian decent her parents are more likely to be Hindu than Muslim. Not sure Hindu's would be any less tolerant of a girl parading round in her swimsuit.

All's possible. I've no idea what she believes in, but actually, I wouldn't want a daughter of mine to go in for any beauty pageants, etc. Beauty's in the eye of the beholder anyway.
