Taliban on Bin Laden: Who Cares?

Postby Yogi » 11 May 2011, 10:07

Bin Laden had been a good Muslim, said the small, wiry Taliban judge leading the ritual. Bin Laden had surrendered a life of luxury for one of hardship, and his "death on the battlefield" was befitting. Beyond that, as far as the Taliban are concerned, "his death had no impact," said the judge, who goes by the nom de guerre Khanjari (and whose identity was confirmed by a member of Afghanistan's security service).

That doesn't sound like anybody in Afghanistan is psyched up for revenge over Bin Laden's assassination. In fact the Taliban has always been put off by al-Qaeda taking the attention away from them.

Now the question becomes, "Why are we in Afghanistan now that Bin Laden is gone?" Wasn't getting Bin Laden the whole point? I am having flash backs of when Saddam Husein was toppled in December of 2006. We are STILL in Iraq after accomplishing that goal, and it looks like the push is on to stay in Afghanistan too.

I'm not one of those George Bush admirers, but he did come up with a great war that is popular yet un-winable: The War On Terrorism. War makes it's leaders popular. The irony of that is disturbing.

Just as with Iraq where by a new excuse to stay was found to justify the troops being there, Afghanistan will be the same. The troops never really leave, there are still troops in N. Ireland, Germany, Korea and the Balkans. Those wars are over but the troops remain.

I agree, both with you and with Andy. We should be leaving the country, but an excuse to stay there will be found. If nothing else, they'll fall back to the old standard of, "The country is too unstable...if we leave now it will all fall apart!"

And Japan, and....say, wouldn't it be shorter to list the countries we don't have a military presence in?

I think we should leave "nation building" to the countries that want a nation built for them! How can you form any kind of a government in a country still ruled by warring 'tribes'? We need to back away from these people and just wish them well. (Afghanistan, Iraq and Korea)

And Pakistan, we vowed revenge and we followed up on it - deal with it!

Twin bomb attacks on a paramilitary force academy in north-west Pakistan have killed 80 people, police say.

The Pakistani Taliban said they carried out the attack to avenge the death of Osama Bin Laden earlier this month.

Ok, so they get their revenge by killing their own people? Way to go idiots. That's like anti-abortionists getting revenge on a doctor by blowing up their own church. This is a shocking loss of young life but shows what pathetic cowards the terrorists are if they can only get revenge in their own back yard.

SOOO you think these 'terrorists' are HEROS if they blow up foreigners in a non-Islamic country? Figures. Scratch a liberal and you will always find a terrorist sympathizer.
