I very much doubt it. Even larger women like to feel good about themselves, but when you get to that sort of weight, I think happiness comes from being resigned to it. They both look horribly unhealthy.

Yes, you're right. I don't know about the first picture, but the condition of the lady in the second pic was said by the website to be hormonally related. It was a "before" picture, before they lipo'ed it out. I'm sure she looks much better now (though they had no "after" picture) and hopefully they have the hormonal problems under control.

Poor woman - and those like her. My best friend who passed away also had a hormone problem. Doctors and specialists tried their best to help her, and briefly did. She managed to lose 13 st. under strict conditions in hospital, but it was mainly fluid which came away from her at first.

The weight gradually crept back on, although she never made it back to the size she'd been before she went into hospital.

Hormonal problems like that can take a long while to put right, and I suppose that, for those who're stuck with the problem, the only thing they can do, is to make the most of it, but t also makes them very sad underneath. My friend was the butt of endless cruel jibes; strangers passing her in the street'd openly laugh or make comments, which obviously showed how ignorant they were, but my friend could do nothing about it, except to walk on and pretend not to care.

I know, and yet you know what? She was loved by everyone who met her. She was witty and intelligent, and when she passed away after a final heart attack, over 200 people turned up at her funeral. Two people who'd been visiting their daughter in Jamaica, even made the trip back here to pay their respects. Fantastic.

That reminds me of a friend of mine back when I was in the Air Force (same place as the cannon incident). There was this lady who would call people on the base and talk to them. She had a beautiful, sultry voice and was the object of many a fantasy. She would meet very few people in person, though.

Needless to say, I was one of the few. The poor woman was 5' 2" and weighed over 300 lbs. I only speak the truth when I say she looked like a beach ball with legs.

But she was a wonderful person. At the time she was considering going through the gastric procedure to reduce her stomach size. She had a friend who had undergone the procedure and was losing weight in leaps and bounds.

I consider her one of my "people well met."

You're missing the point hun, unfortunately.

Some of these very overweight people are ashamed and upset by their size (although not all), but Glenn was illustrating a point that they're still human beings underneath, and if you can see beyond the aesthetics, you can find a person who's just like any other person beneath their "unacceptable" exteriors.

I have a friend who was a model - a really beautiful looking girl, who sadly was involved in a car accident. Half her face was slashed to ribbons, and although she's had operations, she's left with an almighty scar which runs diagonally down her face, from forehead to chin. No amount of makeup can camouflage the lasting result. I've known people to stare at her, laugh at her - or shun her. It's been horrible, because she's still the same nice person underneath that she always was, but her confidence's been knocked for six. No one sees the happy, ambitious girl that she once was - and could be again if only people'd spend a bit of time in getting to know her.

The same with my best friend. She might've been huge in size, but she also had a huge heart and personality. She was an intelligent person with a fantastic sense of humour, but ignorance and prejudice caused a lot of hurt feelings - which she brilliantly covered by being cheerful. I'm sure that the lady who Glenn met was a lovely, warm person, but others often only see what they see on the outside, which's a shame.
