Monomyth, or The Hero's Journey

Post by kg »

If found this an interesting read, and an equally interesting concept. Though I found many parallels in contemporary (and a few not so contemporary) writings, it does have its detractors, but by-and-large, most of the basic concepts are valid. I seem to have instinctively followed its course in my own novel, and in the concept for my planned series (though in the series, "the return" is out of the question).

First, the essence (.pdf): Joseph Campbell's Monomyth (Hero With A Thousand Faces)

A more detailed Wikipedia article: Joseph Campbell's monomyth, or the hero's journey

I realize this might be of limited interest, but writers (especially in my genre) might be well-served to at least consider the theory.

Great info, thanks for posting it Glenn.

I've been way to busy to try to pound out another writing article.
It seems like I go from too much idle time, to not enough time to even take a break to eat.
