What purpose does this serve?

The car-bra protects the front of an auto from the dings and scratches that occur from road travel. It also enhances re-sale value (if the dings and scratches are not there). It also keeps smashed insects from worming their way into the paint finish. Some insects are almost impossible to lift off car paint without a knife, which does nothing for the finish.
