Raoul Wallenberg, the Swedish Schindler

Postby Ice.Maiden » 01 Feb 2015, 01:34

I'd never heard of this man before today, but the article fascinated me.

If you can give yourself 10 minutes to read it, I think you'll agree that such people deserve recognition, since at great risk to themselves they saved lives during the Nazi regime.

i'll read it later, but comparing everybody to schindler really irks me as if schindler was the only one to save jews. does anyone remember Irene Sendler, Dr Stanisław Matulewicz or Dr. Eugene Lazowski? nope. yet those 3 saved between them some 11 000...

Raoul pops up every so often in Swedish news and my g/f's aunt was instrumental in keeping his name alive as she was trying to track him.

oh btw. you can kill the other post before someone replies. after that, it stays.

now that I think about it, the article left out an interesting bit about the Wallenberg affair: what the swedes did to help him out:

nothing.

think about it: what business did the ruskies have in arresting and detaining Swedish nationals in - Budapest?

I don't know, but no one's quite sure what happened to the man after his imprisonment.

He certainly wasn't the only one to help people to escape, but each one must've had an amazing story to tell, and put their own lives at risk.

A true humanitarian, pity the Russians didn't see it that way.

Indeed. You can't imagine them to've shown much compassion at all, can you?

considering their history, I've no clue why they'd be anti-Semitic, but they sure are. along with anti plenty other things as well.

things are getting unstable, so governments dig up people to use as scapegoats. why not go with what worked before?

It baffles me that anyone should hate another person just because of their race. If they're harming others, then it's more understandable, but the majority of folk're fed up of wars, fighting and unfair treatment of innocents.

Nor me really. I just can't get over the hatred and bigotry that some people still have.
