duckies!

i was outside talking with anna, a neighbour, and saw this most peculiar sight come marching down the street: 2-3 people in the front, cardboard and a sheet, then more people bringing up the rear. by the time they got to our house, there was a parade.

apparently ma duck had decided to bring the family to the river, right through downtown and heading for the river - 5 blocks away. brave girl.

when a lady up the street saw them, she knew they'd never make it marching down the middle of the shady side streets, so she got a sheet. another neighbour brought a large piece of cardboard and they started herding the duckies.

they all made the river safely.

silja took the video clip on her phone.

Awww! Little duckies!

The video is great! I tried to add my comment about it on YouTube, but couldn't remember my member name. So I put in a request for it.

Silja - I'm so glad you video'd the little parade!

Hooch - I'm so glad you posted it here!

Un-named women who herded the mommy duck and her babies - Thank you!

it wasn't just women, there were males of all ages too. the guys galantly took the front, meaning facing the traffic, even around the blind bend.

Now that's what I call wonderful. To be so kind as to escort Mama Duck and her babies to the water is something very special. Where were they coming from? How did they get so far away from the water?

http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?formtype=address&country=US&popflag=0&latitude=&longitude=&name=&phone=&level=&addtohistory=&cat=&address=30+john+street&city=brampton&state=on&zipcode=

zoom in on the map, so you'll see the streets more clearly. the ducks were first seen at queen and main and some kids followed them along until they got to chapel and wellington when the sheets etc came out.

what a loooong walk with such teensy feetsies.

the river is right at the corner of wellington and james where a steep hill takes you down to a path and another smaller one hill to the river.

i've not not the foggiest where they might have come from, the only water is in the town hall fountain. [is it a fountain...?]
