Sore elbow.

Postby MWB » 17 Sep 2009, 04:47

Hi brandtrn.

I just had a thought - and yeah, it hurt!

For a few months now, I've woken up with a sore right elbow. It goes away after an hour or so. I use my computer mouse with my right hand. Could my sore elbow be because of this?

I only thought of it now, as my right arm CLOSE to my elbow is a bit achy.

I'm aware of RSI and always try to use my computer in an ergonomic way but could this be what's making my elbow achy?

A mouse with 7 buttons? That's a lot of buttons for a wee rodent to deal with!

My elbow was uber sore this am. I always wake up on my back, so it can't be me sleeping on my arm.

Sorry I'm so late posting to this topic, MWB. Giving up my "vampire" shift and getting used to being up during daylight hours, along with all the sensory "overload" I'm going through in my new job orientation has had me so worn out that I've not logged in over the past few days :vrysad:

Anyway, regarding your elbow pain, I have a couple of questions for you before I start guessing about the possible causes for it...have you been having any numbness or tingling along with your pain (especially of the pinky and ring fingers of the right hand)? Also, you mentioned that your arm CLOSE to your elbow also aches at times. Would that pain be on the inner side of your forearm? And finally, is the pain mostly on your inner or outer elbow, or does it affect both? Finally, have you suffered any kind of recent injury to your right arm?

Hi brandtrn.

No, no numbness or tingling.

That pain, CLOSE to my elbow is on the outside under the elbow toward my hand.

The pain is on the outer elbow & more toward the top of my elbow.

No, no recent injury.

I'm thinking it's RSI.

BUT, I do have some arthritis in my neck & thumbs. Could it be it's spreading? :vrysad:

RSI is, indeed, a real possibility...the lack of numbness and tingling is encouraging, because otherwise, since the pain is in your elbow rather than your wrist, my first thought was ulnar nerve compression. And yes, arthritis is another possibility, but as a general rule, I'd expect it to be perhaps a bit more symmetrical (i.e., both of your elbows might be hurting in that case). In any case, a little of self-help towards joint health wouldn't be a bad idea, in any case. Glucosamine/chondroitin supplements, such as Osteo-Biflex, Elations, etc., might help a bit towards managing your discomfort. However, if the pain progresses or worsens, I would strongly suggest a visit to your primary care physician to have the situation evaluated.

Went to the doctor yesterday.

He diagnosed tennis elbow.

Showed me some exercises to do every 4 hours or so, and it's already feeling better.

Yaaayyyyy! :dancer2:
