Smelly cat.

Postby MWB » 17 Sep 2009, 02:03

Hi Vettechie. How're you doing?

One of my 8 year old, spayed cats quite often smells like what I would describe as a tomcat. Her bum? can be very smelly indeed.

What causes this and can it be stopped?

Thanks

leakage? infection? have you considered a shave?

[brings back bad memories of a good cat...]

I was thinking it could be polyps.

it could be her anal glands, normally used for marking and territorial issues, the glands can become plugged due to dis use, soft bowel movements, weight gain and the cushy life house cats now enjoy. It could also be poor grooming, or even kidney disease causing an odor.I would schedule a vet visit to have the glands looked at, and maybe bloodwork to rule out kidney disease.
