heisenberg is a very remarkable cat. she figured out a way in and out of the house that took us weeks to figure out. no, i'm not kidding, a damned cat had us totally baffled.

i would see her run out when i put lucy out, yet as i turn around and go back in, i'd meet her in the kitchen! how did she do that? or... i'd toss her in as i'm leaving and 30 sec's later she's in the driveway.

well, one route she took was very direct, she'd drop in from the attic access hatch we had left open as we were working on stuff. she did this very successfully for a few months, until i moved the step ladder one day and she missed her footing and probably broke her leg. i had never thought about it as she had dropped in regularly without mishaps and the ladder not being there.

whatever the reason, she was limping around and we took her to the vet.

the vet drew up a diagnostic estimate and it came to $470.

like wtf? that was merely diagnosis? i was going to take her to my gp, but he - very inconveniently - got sick. meanwhile, she got better and started to put weight on the leg

.....and then the silly tit dropped in from the attic again!

cat is a slow learner, apparently. [us too; the hatch got closed off promptly.]

when my daughter said "$470? we don't have that kind of money handy!" the vet had said "well! i don't have ex-ray vision!"

now, in your estimate, is a $470 diagnosis reasonable, with ex-rays and all that? [i haven't recovered from lucy's $700 vet visit yet....]

hmm... let's see... if i leave on monday, i should be there....

actually, she's learned to land on the other paw i guess, for she's ok now and she found another way into the house: a gap next to the chimney!
