Re: eReader.

A little update to this thread, since I have an update to make.

Earlier I said that I had recently considered an eReader for reading books. Today I took the plunge and bought an 8 GB Nook Tablet reader. Really, it does a bunch of stuff that I'd rather do on my computers (with their bigger screens and all), but it certainly does download and store books.

One thing I've noticed is that unlike the Kindle, which will connect to Amazon.com and download books via their proprietary 3G network, it requires a WiFi network. I refuse to use a public network but I have my home network which works just fine with it. It works with Hulu and Netflix, several on-line music sources, has an apps store for various apps and games, and a whole bunch of extras. I mainly want to read my books on it, though.

I went to Barnes and Noble today looking for some books to read and couldn't find them. I started checking out the Nooks they had and found they had the books I was looking for available as eBooks, so I bought it. I just downloaded Christopher Paolini's "Inheritance Cycle" series (books 1-3, the fourth isn't included in a bundle yet) and am looking forward to reading it.

I've been (re-)reading Jordan's "Wheel Of Time" series and am at the end of the last book that's been written. The next (and last) book in the series doesn't come out until later this year sometime so I had to have something to read while waiting for that to come out. I'll probably get that one in e-format when it comes out. In fact, I wouldn't mind getting the whole series sometime in the future.

As a side note: the apps store seems to have something with which to edit Word Documents. While nothing can beat my ergonomic wireless keyboard, I might be able to do some (very) light writing without being tied to my computer.

This one was listed at $199 US. They have less expensive and more expensive.

Of course, there are other readers, like the Kindle.

Here's a good site to read reviews and ratings on the top E-Readers on the market:

I have a Nook Color, and like it very much. While nothing will ever replace a "real" book for me, it's nice to know that I can go on vacation without taking a dozen books along with me -- they take too much space! I've downloaded a number of books to my e-reader, and look forward to accumulating several more. As a matter of fact, I've downloaded the entire "Hunger Games" trilogy to my Nook, and I'm looking forward to reading those when I'm settled into my vacation home in May

Ideal for that sort of thing aren't they? We bought my mother one for Christmas, knowing that she'd be going on holiday soon afterwards. Unfortunately, she was only gone for 2 weeks and never got round to reading anything, but it WILL come in handy.

When you've read the Hunger Games, will you give an opinion on them please?

Depends on what you mean by "any kind of book." Books from most all genres are available for it, but not all titles have been published in the eBook format. The Harry Potter series was only just published for eBook. Before that, it was book form only.
